Numerical Ability Section Analysis for SBI JA:
The Numerical Ability section consists of questions from the following topics - Arithmetic, Algebra, Probability, Permutations & Combinations, Data Interpretation, etc. Since our primary focus is on clearing the cut-offs, let's classify the topics into various difficulty levels considering average time spent to solve each question.
Easy - Quadratic Equations, Simplifications and Approximations, Number Series, Time and Work
Moderate - Data Interpretation, Percentages, Ratio & Proportions, Profit, and Loss, SI & CI
Difficult - Time Speed & Distance, Pipes and Cisterns, Mixtures, Mensuration
Make sure you complete practicing all the easy category questions first which will give you ample time to work on weak areas. Analyze your performance regularly by appearing dozens and scores of mock tests. Mock tests are the only judging parameter that would help you ace the prelims as well as mains.
Practice Paper for Quantitative Aptitude for SBI JA :
1. Two varieties of wheat - A and B that cost Rs. 11 per kg and Rs. 17 per kg are mixed in the ratio 3: 7. If 5 kg of the mixture is sold at 25% profit, find the profit made.
B. Rs. 15
C. Rs. 17
D. Rs. 19
Let the quantities of A and B mixed be 3x kg and 7x kg.
2. The roots of the quadratic equation: 3x2 - 12x + 10 = 0 are:
A. irrational and unequal
B. real and equal
C. rational and equal
D. rational and unequal
The discriminant of the quadratic equation (D) is (-12)2 - 4(3)x(10) i.e., 24. As this is positive but not a perfect square, the roots are irrational and unequal.
3. What percentage of numbers from 1 to 70 have 1 or 9 in the units digit?
Clearly, the numbers which have 1 or 9 in the units digit from 1 to 70 are 1, 9, 11, 19, 21, 29, 31, 39, 41, 49, 51, 59, 61, 69.
Number of such numbers =14
Required percentage = ( (14/70) x 100 )% = 20%
4. 1: 4 = (11/4): X. The value of x is?
X x 1 = 4 * 11/4
X = 11
5. (23/3) x (28/5) x (13/3) + (7/3) = ?
A. 180 15/46
B. 185 18/45
C. 187 16/44)
D. 188 17/45
7 2/3 x 5 3/5 x 4 1/3 + 2 1/3
= 23/3 x 28/5 x 13/3 + 7/3
6. Express a speed of 45 km/h in meters per second?
40 x (5/18) = 12.5 m/s
7. If the selling price is doubled, the profit triples. Find the profit percent.
Let C.P. be Rs. x and S.P. be Rs. y.
Then, 3(y - x) = (2y - x) y = 2x.
Profit = Rs. (y - x) = Rs. (2x - x) = Rs. x.
Profit % = (x/x * 100 )% = 100%
8. At what rate of simple interest per annum will Rs.750 amount to Rs.900 in 5 years?
We know, SI = (P x R x T)÷100
(900-750) = (750 X R X 5)÷100
R = (150 X 100)÷(750 X 5)
R = 4%
9. Look at this series: 53, 56, 54, 57, 55, 58, ... What number should come next?
A. 40/3 days
B. 33/2 days
C. 69/4 days
D. 56/5 days
Let B alone can finish the work in 'x' days so, we get:
5/30 + 20/x = 1
x = 24
Now for completing the work together, we have:
1÷ (1/30 + 1/24)
= 40/3 days
