What is SBI? 

The State Bank of India is a self-governed body whose mission is to recruit the best candidates for banks in India through personal assessment in the areas of aptitude and accuracy. The SBI PO 2018 Exam is conducted every year to recruit Probationary Officers into the SBI Branches across India. This year would see the competition getting closer as the number of students appearing for SBI PO 2018 exam is set to cross 20 Lakhs. 

What is SBI PO? 

The SBI Probationary Officer (PO) Exam is divided into two phases, Prelims and Mains. The SBI PO 2018 Application Form and Notification has already been released. 

SBI PO 2018 Selection Procedure

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination ( Objective + Descriptive ) 
  • Group Exercise and Personal Interview

All aspirants need to clear the Prelims (Preliminary) exam first to go through to the Main Examination. The shortlisted candidates in Main Exam will be shortlisted for a Personal Interview. The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Mains Exam and the candidate’s performance in the Group Exercise and Personal Interview.

SBI PO 2018 Exam Pattern

SBI PO 2018 Prelims Exam pattern

The SBI PO 2018 Prelims Exam paper consists of 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark split into 3 sections - Quantitative Aptitude, English Language, Reasoning Ability. There are sectional time limits but no sectional cutoffs.

The total duration of the exam is 1 hour. 100 questions in 60 mins seem difficult but this is where your preparation comes into the picture. Not just hard work but you also need to have a sound strategy to be able to do well in the SBI PO 2018 Exam.

SBI PO 2018 Main Exam pattern

The SBI PO 2018 Mains Exam consists of 200 questions split into 5 sections. Total time allotted is 140 minutes. The pattern is as follows:

SBI PO Descriptive Test

There's a descriptive test for 50 marks which tests your Letter Writing and Essay Writing Skills in the English Language. There is no negative marking for this section. The marks scored in the Descriptive Test will be considered for the final shortlist. 

Two important things to note are:

  • There will be a negative marking of 1/4th mark for every wrong answer in both Prelims and Main Examinations. 
  • The marks obtained in Main Exam along with the Descriptive Test marks and performance in group exercise & personal interview will determine candidate's chances of getting into the final merit list.

SBI PO 2018 Exam Dates

The dates for Prelims and Mains as per the SBI Calendar 2018 are:

  • Online registration including editing and modification of application by candidates - 21st April, 2018 to 13th May, 2018
  • Payment of Application fees - 21st April, 2018 to 13th May, 2018
  • Online registration including editing and modification of application by candidates - 21st April, 2018 to 13th May, 2018
  • Online Preliminary Exam Dates - 1st, 7th and 8th July
  • Online Mains Exam - 4th August, 2018
  • Preliminary Exam Results - 15 July, 2018
  • Mains Exam Results - 20th August, 2018
  • Group Exercises and Interview - 24th September, 2018 to 12th October, 2018
  • Downloading of Call letters for online preliminary exam - 18 June onwards
  • Downloading of Call letters for online main exam -20th July, 2018
  • Downloading of call letter for Personal Interview - 1st September, 2018
  • Declaration of Final Result - 1st November, 2018

The Candidates who clear the mains exam and the Interview will be recruited as Probationary Officers into one of the SBI branches across India. One of the prime reasons why this is the most sought after position is definitely the lucrative salary. 

Expected Salary:- Rs. 33,000 - 42,000 (in hand) + Allowances

SBI PO 2018 Application and Eligibility Criteria

The Candidate must be a graduate from a government recognized institution. In addition to that, the candidate should’ve had English as one of his subjects in his graduation/Intermediate or HSC. Candidate must also possess a certificate in proof of passing the examination.

Age Limit:  20-30 Years

The online application for SBI PO 2018 Exam will begin after the release of the official notification. The fee for the online application is as follows : 

Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PWD Candidates.

Rs.600/- for all other categories. 

Upon completion of the online application process, the candidate can download his Admit Card from the official website of SBI.

SBI PO 2017-18 Cut off marks

The cut offs keep changing depending on the number of candidates and the number of vacancies. Last year the SBI PO vacancies were close to 2403. This year, the number has reduced to 2000 making the competition even tougher.
