St. Xavier's College - Admission

St. Xavier’s College, an Autonomous College under the University of Mumbai, invites applications for Entrance Test and admission to the Three Year Degree Courses in Bachelor in Mass Media (B.M.M.) and Bachelor in Management Studies (B.M.S.) for the Academic Year 2018-2019.

Venue of the Entrance Test

There is only one test venue and that is at Xavier's College - Autonomous, MUMBAI – 400001.

Schedule of the Entrance Test

  • B.M.M.: On Friday, June 1st 2018, 2 pm to 4 pm (IST)  
  • B.M.S.: On Saturday, June 2nd 2018, 2 pm to 4 pm (IST)
  • Reporting time: 1.00 p.m. at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai.
  • The Schedule will remain unaltered even if the above dates are declared Public Holidays.
  • The Test Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes.

Basis of Admission

  1. There will be a written test of 100 marks. This is an Objective Test on an OMR Sheet.
  2. Category-wise Final Merit list will be made by giving a 60% weightage to the score obtained in the written test and a 40% weightage to the score obtained in the qualifying Class XII Examinations. 

Entrance Test - the instructions

  1. The Entrance Test will be for 100 marks based on Multiple Choice Questions. Not more than one option in the OMR sheet can be marked.
  2. Carry a BLACK ball point pen.
  3. Use of only a SIMPLE Calculator is allowed. Programmable Calculators are not allowed at all
  4. Carry your downloaded printed Admit Card.
  5. The Candidate will need to affix a recent passport size photograph on the printed Admit Card and get it attested by their School / College Principal or a Gazetted Officer and carry it to the Examination Hall.
  6. Carry the necessary documents listed under Submissions of Documents on the day of the Entrance Test.

Nature of the Content of the Entrance Test

  1. For the BMM, the test will consist of questions on General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Data Interpretation, Economics, English Language & Comprehension Skills, Logical Reasoning and Critical Analysis & Creative Thinking.
  2. For the BMS, the test will consist of General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Data Interpretation, Mathematics, English Language & Comprehension Skills, Logical & Visual Reasoning, Critical Analysis.
  3. The Question Paper for both the tests will be in English.
  4. There is NO NEGATIVE marking.

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing for BMM/BMS 2018 Entrance Test

  1. Candidates belonging to the General Category (GC) whose date of birth falls on or after 1st June 1995 are eligible to appear for the Entrance Test BMM/BMS 2018. 
  2. Candidates belonging to the Christian religious community and SC/ST candidates who are born on or after 1st June 1993 are eligible to appear for the Entrance Test BMM/BMS 2018.
  3. For Christian minority candidates the Baptism Certificate will be a necessary document.
  4. A candidate must have passed a Qualifying Examination (QE) or should be appearing for the same in 2018.  Those who will be appearing in the QE later than June 30th, 2018 are not eligible to apply for BMM/BMS 2018 Entrance Test.
  5. The Qualifying Examinations (QEs) are listed below:
    • The final Examination of the 10 + 2 system conducted by any recognised Central / State Board, including the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Mumbai, Pune, etc., Central Board of Secondary Education, (C.B.S.E.) New Delhi, Council for the Indian School Certification Examination, (I.S.C.) New Delhi.
    • Intermediate or 2-Year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognised Board / University.
    • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of 5 subjects.
    • In case the candidate has passed the qualifying Examination from a Board or Pre-University other than the Maharashtra State Board then the candidate will be required to apply for a Provisional Eligibility Certificate issued by the University of Mumbai through the College at the time of admission. 
  6. Minimum Percentage of marks in Qualifying Test (QE)
    • Candidates belonging to the General Category, must secure at least 65% marks in aggregate in their QE.
    • Candidates from the Christian Minority Community must secure at least 60% in the QE.
    • SC / ST candidates must secure at least 55% marks in their QE.

There are reservations for seats basing on Management Quota, Minority, SC, ST, OBC etc.

Mode of Application for BMM/BMS 2018 Entrance Test

  1. Candidates can apply online and by logging on to the Homepage of St. Xavier’s College – Autonomous, Mumbai website: www.xaviers.edu
  2. The online application portal will be open from 10 am (IST) on 1st May 2018 to 5 pm (IST) on 30th May, 2018.
  3. The fee for the on-line application:
    •  ST /SC candidates: Rs. 1000/-
    • For other candidates: Rs. 3000/-
  4. Candidates are required to make an online payment through Credit/Debit Cards.

Instructions for Applying Online: 

  1. Log on to www.xaviers.edu (from 1st to 30th May 2018).
  2. Follow the instructions given on the website carefully for filling the online application form.
  3. Once a payment has been received the candidate will receive a confirmation email. Subsequently the candidate will be able to download and print an Admit Card for the Entrance Test.
  4. The Candidate will need to affix a recent passport size photograph on the printed Admit Card and get it attested by their School / College Principal or a Gazetted Officer and carry it to the Examination Hall and also carry their Aadhaar Card/Junior College ID Card. 
  5. Last date for receipt of the completed application form is 30th May 2018 (5 PM).
    • Any application received after this date will not be accepted.
    • No acknowledgement card will be sent.
    • The attested Admit Card issued should be brought to the Examination Hall.
    • If the Admit Card is not received by 30th May 2018, the candidate can approach the College Office or the HELP DESK on the day of the Entrance Test and upon satisfaction of having complied with all requirements, can obtain an Admit Card on the spot (to avail of this facility please ensure you carry one passport size photograph and also your Aadhaar Card/Junior College ID Card).

Submission of documents on the day of the Entrance Test

Candidates appearing for the Entrance Test are required to submit the following document/s along with their ADMIT CARD on the day of the Entrance Test..

Please do NOT post or courier the Marksheets and other relevant Documents to the College. No original documents are required to be submitted at this stage.

General Category:

  1. One attested copy of the Class XII Marksheet  

Christian Minority:

  1. One attested copy of the Class XII Marksheet; and
  2. One attested copy of the Baptism Certificate

Reserved Category:

  1. One attested copy of the Class XII Marksheet; and
  2. One attested copy of the Caste Certificate

Special Category (**):

  1. One attested copy of the Class XII Marksheet; and
  2. One copy of the Documentary Proof supporting the category  

Provisions for Students with Disabilities and Document Requirements

  1. For students with disabilities, the following provisions are available for the entrance examination.
  2. 30 minutes extra for the entrance examination.
  3. Permission to use a writer.

Result Announcement of BMS/BMM 2018 Entrance Test

  1. The Results of the Entrance Test will be announced through the College website.
  2. Category-wise Final Merit List will be announced through the College website.

  1. The University of Mumbai has made it mandatory for all candidates seeking admission to the First Year courses in the Degree Colleges to fill in the ‘Pre-Admission Online Registration Form’ on the following link mum.digitaluniversity.ac (Dates for online registration will be announced by the University sometime in the last week of May 2018 - you will need to click on:- Pre Admission Online Registration)
  2. Therefore, all candidates (including in-house students passing HSC of February / March 2018) applying for admission to St. Xavier’s College for the First Year Courses i.e. B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Sc. (IT), B.M.M. and B.M.S. are required to fill in the ‘Pre-Admission Online Registration Form’ and submit a hard copy of the same to the College Office (dates for submission will be announced later on the College Website).
