IBPS RRB OA Prelims Numerical Ability Sample Questions

IBPS RRB OA Quantitative Aptitude Online Practice Paper

IBPS RRB until 2015 had a single level exam for both Office Assistant and Officer Scale-1 posts. Since 2016, there has been a two-tier exam for both the posts. Regional Rural Banks are local level banking organizations operating in the different States of India. They have been created with a view to primarily serve the rural areas of India with basic banking and financial services. However, RRBs have branches set up for urban operations and their area of operation includes small towns & semi-urban areas too. The area of operation of RRBs is limited to the area as notified by Government of India covering one or more districts in the State.

The IBPS RRB OA Preliminary examination is scheduled to be held on 19th, 25th August and 1st September 2018 and the mains examination is scheduled to be held on 7th October 2018

Practice Quantitative Aptitude Questions for IBPS RRB OA:

1. The ratio between the speeds of two trains is 6: 8. If the second train runs 500 km in 5 hours, then the speed of the first train is:

A. 85 km/h

B. 60 km/h

C. 80 km/h

D. 75 km/h

Answer: D

Explanation:

Let the speed of two trains be 6x and 8x km/hr

Then, 8x = 500 / 5 = 100

x = 100 / 8 = 12.5

Speed of first train = (6 x 12.5) km/h = 75 km/h

2. Factorize the Algebraic Expression (P - 2)2 - (Q - 3)2?

A. (Q - P + 1) (P + Q - 5)

B. (P - Q + 3) (P + Q - 1)

C. (P - Q + 1) (P + Q - 5)

D. (Q - P + 3) (P + Q - 3)

Answer: C

Explanation:

(A - B) (A + B) = A2 - B2

Where, A = (P - 2), B = (Q - 3)

(P - 2)2 - (Q - 3)2 = ((P - 2) - (Q - 3)) ((P - 2) + (Q - 3))

                       = (P - 2 - Q + 3) (P - 2 + Q - 3)

                       = (P - Q + 1) (P + Q - 5)

3. In a fruit box, there are 8 Apples, 7 Mangoes, and 6 Oranges. One Fruit is picked up randomly. What is the probability that it is neither Apples nor Oranges?

A. 2 / 3

B. 1 / 3

C. 3 / 4

D. 1 / 2

Answer: B

Explanation:

Total number of Fruits n(S) = (8 + 7 + 6) = 21.

Let E →  the event that the Fruit is picked neither Apple nor Orange

Let P(E) →  event that the Fruit is picked Mango.

n(E) = 7

P(E) = n(E) / n(S) = 7/21 = 1 / 3

4. Out of 9 consonants and 4 vowels, how many words of 5 consonants and 2 vowels can be formed?

A.835

B.536

C.756

D.652

Answer: C

Explanation:

= Number of ways of selecting (5 consonants out of 9) and (2 vowels out of 4)

= (9C5 x 4C2)

=[(9 * 8 * 7 * 6 * 5) / ( 5* 4 * 3 * 2 * 1)] * (4 * 3 / 2 * 1)

= 756 ways

5. In how many ways can a group of 6 men and 3 women be formed from 7 men and 4 women?

A. 28

B. 32

C. 36

D. 42

Answer: A

Explanation:

We need to select 6 men from 7 men and 3 women from 4 women.

= Number of ways to do this

= 7C6 × 4C3

= 7C1 × 4C1 [ nCr = nC(n-r)]

= 7× 4 = 28

6. Given an arithmetic progression with the initial term 5 and the common difference 7. What is the 10th term?

A. 54

B. 85

C. 76

D. 68

Answer: D

Explanation:

If  a = 5 and the common difference is d = 7  by the formula above, we have

T10 = 5 + [(10 -1)7]    [Using arithmetic progression Tn = a + (n - 1)d ]

= 5 + 63 = 68

Thus, the 10 term in the arithmetic progression is 68.

7. Find the value of x from the following expression:

[- 2 ( x - 3 )] + [4 ( - 2x  + 8)] = 0

A. 4

B. 8

C. 3

D. 2

Answer: A

Explanation:

→ [- 2 ( x - 3 )] + [4 ( - 2x  + 8)] = 0

→ - 2x + 6 - 8x  + 32 = 0

→ - 10x + 40 = 0

→ x = 4

8. What is the probability of getting a sum 7 from two throws of a dice?

A. 1/9

B. 1/8

C. 1/7

D. 1/6

Answer: D

Explanation:

In two throws of a dice, n(S) = (6 x 6) = 36.

Let E →  event of getting a sum ={(1, 6), (4, 3), (3, 4), (6, 1), (2,5), (5,2)}.

→ P(E) = n(E) / n(S)

→ 6/36 = 1/6

9. Which of the following cannot represent probability?

A. 0

B. -0.01

C. 0.5

D. 1

Answer: B

Explanation:

A probability is always greater than or equal to 0 and less than or equal to 1, hence only B cannot represent probability: -0.01,i.e., less than 0.

10. Study the following table and answer the questions based on it.

Expenditures of a Company (in Lakh Rupees) per Annum Over the given Years.

Year Item of Expenditure
Salary Fuel and Transport Bonus Interest on Loans Taxes
2001 300 100 2.51 24.6 85
2002 450 115 3.25 31.5 110
2003 354 105 3.64 41.2 78
2004 426 140 4.78 37.5 92
2005 510 155 4.96 50.4 100

a. The ratio between the total expenditure on Taxes for all the years and the total expenditure on Fuel and Transport for all the years is approximately:

A. 31 / 41

B. 33 / 43

C. 22 / 32

D. 33 / 23

Answer: A

Explanation:

Ratio: Total Taxes / Total Fuel and Transport

=> (85+110+78+92+100) / (100+115+105+140+155)

=> 465 / 615

=>31 / 41

b.The total expenditure of the company over all the heads during the year 2002 is:

A. Rs. 625.43 lakhs.

B. Rs. 578.79 lakhs.

C. Rs. 810.53 lakhs.

D. Rs. 709.75 lakhs.

Answer: D

Explanation:

The total expenditure of the Company during 2002

    = Rs. (450 + 115 + 3.25 + 31.5 + 110) lakhs

    = Rs. 709.75 lakhs.

c. The total amount of bonus paid by the company during the given period is approximately what percentage of the total amount of salary paid during this period?

A. 1.5%

B. 0.93%

C. 1%

D. 1.56%

Answer: B

Explanation:

Percentage = [( 2.51+ 3.25+3.64+4.78+4.96)/(300+450+354+426+510)] * 100%

                   => (19.14/ 2040)*100%

                   => 0.93%

d. What is the average amount of interest per year which the company had to pay during this period?

A.  Rs.37.04 lakhs

B.  Rs.38.32 lakhs

C.  Rs.39.26 lakhs

D.  Rs.40.55 lakhs

Answer: A

Explanation:

The average amount of interest paid by the Company during the given period

=> (24.6+31.5+41.2+37.5+50.4) / 5
