This article covers some of the quant question based on the previous year’s pattern related to Speed and Time, Algebra, Equations, Progression, profit and Loss, Ratios, Averages and Geometry.

Directions for Questions 1 to 8: Choose the correct options in below questions.

1.Two city express trains are travelling in opposite direction of each other and the distance between them is 160kms. Train A starts at 4 PM with a speed of 30Kmph and train B starts at 5 PM with a speed of 35 Kmph. Find out at what time both the trains will meet each other?

a) 6 PM

b) 7 PM

c) 7 AM

d) 8 PM

Explanation:

Distance = 160 km

Train A start at 4 PM, Distance travelled till 5 PM = speed X time = 30 x 1 = 30 Km

Remaining Distance = 130 Km

Since, both the trains are moving in opposite direction, therefore the relative speed will be equal to Speed of A + Speed of B = 30=35 = 65 kmph

Now, Time taken to meet = Remaining Distance / Relative Speed

=> 130/65= 2 hrs

So, the trains will meet after 2 hours from 5 PM. Correction answer is Option B

2. The difference between the age of 2 sisters is 15 years. If five years ago, the older sister age is 4 times the younger sister's age, then find out the present ages of both the sisters in years

a) 30, 15

b) 20, 5

c) 25, 10

d) 18, 3

Explanation:

Let the age of younger sister = X, therefore the age of Older sister = X+15

Now, five years ago age of both sisters is X-5 and X+10

According to question, 4 * (X-5) = X+10 ==> X = 10

Therefore, the present age of both sisters is 25 and 10. Correction answer is Option C

3. What will be the 15th term in series 5, 1, -3, -7 …?

a) -51

b) -55

c) -47

d) -59

Explanation:

As we can see that this series is an arithmetic progression with

First term (a) = 5, Common difference (d) = -4

Therefore 15th term = a+ (n-1) * d = 5 + 14 * (-4) = -51

So the correct answer is Option A

4. Three close friends Amar, Akbar, and Anthony started their business by investing Rs.12000, 15000, 18000 respectively. Find the share of Akbhar if the profit earned in one year is 22500.

a) 6750

b) 9000

c) 6000

d)7500

Explanation:

Ratio of share invested by them is Amar: Akbhar: Anthony = 12000 : 15000 : 18000 = 4 : 5 : 6

Therefore, share of Akbhar in profit = {5 /(4+5+6)} * 22500 = 7500

So the correct answer is Option D

5. Arun scored total 67 % marks in 6 subjects having 100 marks each. Maths being his favorite subject, He scores 20 % of the total marks in Maths only. Find out how much total does he scored in other subjects.

a) 321.6

b) 321

c) 80.4

d) 300

Explanation:

Total marks obtained = 67% of 600 = 402

Marks obtained in Maths = 20% of 402 = 80.4

Marks obtained in other subjects = 402 – 80.4 = 321.6

So the correct answer is Option A

6. A work can be completed in 15 days by a certain number of workers. However, if the number of workers is increased by 15, the days taken to complete work will be reduced by 5 days. How many men were in the starting?

a) 110

b) 30

c) 15

d) 60

Explanation:

Let suppose that there are “X” men originally. We know that there is an indirect proportional relation between the number of workers and days required to complete work.

Therefore, X* 15 = (X+15)* 10 => X = 30

Therefore, the correct answer is Option B

7. A cylinder has a diameter of 8 cms and its height is 8 cms. If 12 spheres of the same size are made from the material obtained, what is the diameter of each sphere?

a) 4

b) 2

c) 8

d) 1

Explanation:

Volume of Cylinder = Pi * R^2 * H = Pi * 4^2 * 8 = 128 8 Pi

Volume of Sphere = (4/3) * Pi * R^3

Since, we have to make 12 same spheres out of cylinder volume

Therefore, Volume of Cylinder = 12 * Volume of Sphere

128 * Pi = 12 * (4/3) * Pi * R^3 => R = 2 and D = 4

The correct answer is Option A
