A’s salary is 5/6 times the salary of B whose salary is 25% less than the salary of C. If C’s salary is 240000, what is the salary of A?

(b) 150000

**Answer: (b)**

Salary of B = .75 x 240000 = 180000

Salary of A = (5/6) x 180000 = 150000

**Question 2:**

Find the value of ‘a’ if (x-2) is a factor of x3-9x2+2ax-24. x is a real number and a is a constant.

(a) 13

(b) 12

(c) 2

(d) 26

**Answer: (a)**

If (x-2) is a factor, f(2)=0

So, 23-9(22)+2a(2)-24=0

a=13

**Question 3:**

The sum of the roots of a quadratic equation is 5/2 and product of roots is 1.

(a) x2-x+(5/2)=0

(b) x2+(5/2)x-1=0

(c) x2-(5/2)x+1=0

(d) x2+x+(5/2)=0

Sum of roots = 5/2

Product of roots = 1

Required equation: x2-(sum of roots)x + product of roots=0

x2-(5/2)x+1=0

Let Raman’s earnings be x

Tanya’s earnings = (4/3)x

Raman’s earning is less than Tanya’s by (((4/3)x – x)/(4/3)x).100 = 25%

In a deck of cards, what is the probability of getting a black card of value greater than or equal to 8?

Total cards = 52, 26 red and 26 black

Total black cards with value greater or equal to 8 = 7 x 2 =14

Required probability = 14/52 = 7/26

**Question 6:**

A and B start from a same point on a circular track and start moving in opposite direction with speeds of 5 m/s and 6 m/s. The radius of the track is 14m. Find the time taken for A & B to meet again.

(a) 88 s

(b) 14 s

(c) 8 s

(d) 14/11 s

Circumference of circle = 2 xπx 14 = 88m

Relative speed = 6+5 = 11 m/s

Time taken to meet = 88/11 = 8 s

Section A and Section B have 40 and 60 students respectively. The average marks are 42 and 39 respectively. What is the average of the entire badge?

(a) 40.5

(b) 40.2

(c) 40

(d) 40.8

We use the weighted average concept.

Average = (40x42 + 60x39)/(40+60)

= 40.2

A cube with side is melted and 4 spherical balls made from it. What is the volume of each sphere?

(a) 512 m3

(b) 256m3

(c) 96 m3

(d) 128 m3

Volume of cube = 8x8x8 = 512 m3

Volume of a single sphere = 512/4 = 128 m3
