How to Get a 40K Salary as a Fresher (by getting a Bank Job)

Competition has always been high in our highly populated country, whether it is for food, school and college admissions, or job opportunities. Unlike our parents’ generation, we can no longer take up a job and relax, thinking that we will continue in the same job for decades.

No, times have changed and now, you have to constantly push ourselves to get and hold on to a well-paying job with security. Also, unemployment is always a threat in India.

In such an environment, in India a bank job, especially in the government sector, is considered highly desirable. This is because of the fairly good salary, security of a job and the respect and reputation provided by a government job.

What is IBPS?

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an organization that conducts tests and recruitment drives for bank clerks and officers. The Common Written Examination (CWE) for recruitment of officers and clerks is now mandatory for employment in Indian public sector and regional rural banks.

Criteria for Appearing in IBPS and SBI PO Exam: Generally, the candidate should be between 20 and 30 years of age, though there may be some exceptions in case of different categories. He/she should be a graduate in any discipline. Please read relevant exam notification for eligibility criteria.

Upon clearing the Common Written Examination (CWE), you are eligible for positions of Clerk, Probationary Officer (PO) or Management Trainee. One of the most sought-after jobs, after clearing the CWE, is that of a PO. IBPS PO cadres, along with other positions have received salary increments after the 2015 10th Bipartite Wage Revision. Now, after considering all allowances and other perks, an IBPS PO can earn as much as Rs.40,000 per month – as a fresher!

Isn’t that wonderful news? Now, how would you make this happen for yourself? For this, you need to prepare well and score good marks in the IBPS prelims and mains, and perform satisfactorily in the Interview after the exams.

Given below are some tips on how to prepare for IBPS PO exam.

Start preparations well ahead of time: If you start studying 10 or 15 days before the exams, you may not be able to finish the syllabus, or get enough practice in attempting the mock tests. Hence it is preferable that you start preparing for your IBPS PO exams about two months in advance. This will give you ample time to cover all the topics in all the sections.

Find your weak areas: In the Prelims test, there are three sections or categories of question papers: 1) Reasoning Ability 2) Numerical Ability and 3) English language. You might find one or more of these sections more difficult than the others. Focus on those sections, where you are weak first and get enough practice in them. A good mentor can help you narrow down your weak areas and help you to improve them. Online platform based courses are great tools for this purpose as they use machine learning algorithms.

Get good quality study material: For getting a good score in the IBPS PO exam and to clear interviews, you need to prepare using high quality and appropriate study materials from experienced and reputed institutes or publishers. A good study material provider will include Online Videos, IBPS based Full Length Mock tests and Practice tests etc. as part of the package.

Increase your general awareness: In the finals of the IBPS PO exam there are 5 sections, including General Awareness and Computer Knowledge. For these sections, you should read newspapers and other current affairs sources regularly to keep yourself up-to-date about general knowledge. Similarly, you should learn the basic usage of computers. Understand the story behind the GK facts, rather than by-hearting them.

With adequate preparation using an online platform, you can surely crack the IBPS PO and get a starting salary of Rs. 40K as a fresher. To Know “Where to Focus” and “Where not to Focus” in IBPS PO exam, Take a Diagnostic Test now here
