India and Smartphones - The Maximum
In July 2018, Samsung Electronics announced the opening of what it said is the world's biggest mobile phone manufacturing facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in terms of number of devices rolled out every month. Samsung is betting big as India is currently the second biggest mobile market and accounts for 10 per cent of global smartphone sales. From 299 million smartphone users in 2017, the projected increase in the number of users in India is likely to reach 340 million by the end of this year. By 2022, India’s smartphone users are expected to shoot up to a whopping 442 million. The Noida facility will allow Samsung to manufacture phones at a lower cost due to its scale, while other phone making hubs in China, South Korea and Vietnam are getting expensive, analysts who track the sector said.
